About The Role
We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic leader to serve as lead of beatBread’s Underwriting Team. This person will oversee a team responsible for underwriting music royalty deals, performing detailed financial analyses and conducting due diligence on artist, label and writers’ revenues, splits, rights and contractual relationships.
This role will be directly responsible for final review and approval for each potential deal ensuring high standards of accuracy and maintaining and improving beatBread’s underwriting processes in collaboration with its sales, technology, operations and product teams. This person must be a proactive problem solver with exceptional organizational skills with a passion for the music and technology sectors. The role requires the ability to handle confidential information with discretion, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced and innovative environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of underwriting analysts specializing in music royalties.
- Review and approve all underwriting analyses and due diligence reports to generate confirmed advance offers for artists and labels
- Analyze detailed royalty statements from PROs, distributors, publishers, and record labels providing strategic guidance to the team.
- Partner closely with legal to correctly interpret royalty statements ensuring alignment with artist/label/distribution agreements and statements
- Collaborate with finance, business development, and sales teams to craft competitive and well-structured offers.
- Assess the risk and valuation of music royalty streams by evaluating historical earnings, market trends, streaming history and contractual terms.
- Stay on top of industry news that may impact royalty payments or valuations
- Identify anomalies or inconsistencies in royalty and streaming data, investigate root cause, and work across teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues and understand the “why” behind the data
- Flag risks associated with given patterns of streaming and revenue statements, along with review of agreements and royalty statements, with the assistance of beatBread’s risk assessment tools
- Present underwriting findings and valuation reports to internal stakeholders and clients
- Partner with and coach sales team members to thoroughly assess the underlying context of each deal, ensuring alignment on key details, the accuracy of incoming information and the terms of the final offer.
- Proactively identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and strategic value of the underwriting function.
- Coordinate with product and technology teams to build and improve internal tools
- Develop training and documentation for underwriting process and team
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Music Business, or a related field preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in underwriting, financial analysis, royalty accounting, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, data modeling) and experience handling large datasets.
- Familiarity with music publishing, performance rights, and digital distribution revenue streams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial data and understand “the forest from the trees”
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for music and knowledge of the evolving landscape of music rights and royalties.
